What MatBurnout is
MatBurnout (matburnout.com) is an independent burnout education resource founded by Mat Gil. It offers a free self-reflection Check-In, plain-English guides on burnout types, symptoms, and recovery, and optional paid recovery plans. It is an educational resource, not a medical service, and it does not diagnose burnout.
Topics MatBurnout covers
- Burnout types, symptoms, and how burnout differs from stress, anxiety, and depression
- Workplace pressure, availability expectations, and always-on culture
- Recovery planning and realistic pacing while still working
- Manager, founder, and team burnout dynamics
- Profession-specific burnout patterns (hospitality, healthcare, education, and more)
About Mat Gil
Mat Gil is the founder and editorial lead of MatBurnout. He spent over two decades in leadership roles across hospitality, sales, and marketing before burnout changed his own trajectory. He now writes about burnout from lived experience and runs small in-person support sessions. Mat is not a clinician and is not presented as one.
Expert commentary areas
- Hospitality leadership and service-industry pressure
- Sales and marketing work environments
- Workplace pressure and availability expectations
- Leadership responsibility and high-performance work cultures
- Practical, non-clinical workplace burnout observations
For clinical or medical commentary, MatBurnout seeks appropriately qualified contributors rather than presenting Mat Gil as a clinician.
Original research programme
MatBurnout is collecting anonymous responses to the Work Pressure & Recovery Survey — a voluntary, non-diagnostic survey about workload, control, recovery, and support at work. Findings will be published only in aggregate, only once at least 100 valid responses exist, and never framed as clinical burnout prevalence. Methodology and reporting thresholds are documented on the methodology page.
